BEIRUT: The new Porsche 911, or the 992 if you prefer, arrived in Beirut on the 17th of April, 2019, with the fanfare the legendary sports car deserves.
In the presence of Dr. Manfred Bräunl (the regional CEO of Porsche Middle East & Africa FZE), Mr. Steffen Fleck (Network Development Director at Porsche Middle East & Africa FZE) and Mr. Markus Peter (Marketing Director at Porsche Middle East & Africa FZE), Porsche Centre Lebanon, the official distributor of the Porsche brand in the country, unveiled the latest iteration of the car that has tugged at the heartstrings of generation after generation.
Both customers and press attending the spectacular launch event were treated to a pristine example of a 911 from every generation, with the newest addition to the family taking center stage.
The 992 retains the overall timeless silhouette of its predecessors, but comes graced with numerous styling touches that offer a nod to its history – such as the wrap around light bar in the rear – as well as technologies that embrace the future.
The new car, which will initially be released in rear-wheel-drive Carrera S and four-wheel-drive Carrera 4S guise, is bigger in many ways, more powerful and astonishingly quick. It handles better, is far safer, features more advanced technology and, as expected, is more eco-friendly than its predecessors.
The 992 also features a next-generation high-tech engine, an all-new dual-clutch transmission – with an added gear– new, lower seats and a longer and wider body. In fact, every variant of the 911 will now feature the “wider” body as well as the light strip in the rear that harkens back to the G series, the 964, the 993 and the all-wheel drive versions of more recent 911s.
However, although it’s newer, wider, better, faster and more sophisticated, at its core it remains the 911 that has become legend.
